The Vale Resort celebrates double win in World Travel Awards

Vale Resort

For the first time in its history, the Vale Resort in Hensol has been crowned as both Wales’ best golf hotel and best resort spa by an international awards body that recognises excellence in tourism.

The four star hotel and leisure venue, in the Vale of Glamorgan, was named Wales’ Best Golf Hotel 2017 at the 4th annual World Golf Awards, held at La Manga Club, Spain.

The Vale Spa at The Vale Resort was then named Wales' Best Resort Spa 2017 at the 3rd annual World Spa Awards, held at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay, Vietnam.

The World Travel Awards previously recognised the Vale Resort as Wales’ Leading Golf Resort in 2004 and 2007 and the Vale Spa as Wales’ Leading Spa Resort in 2006 and 2015.

Both ceremonies are organised by the World Travel Awards, which describes itself as “the ultimate hallmark of industry excellence” and holds various awards ceremonies to reward the best travel and leisure organisations in the world, which have been described by the Wall Street Journal as the ‘Oscars of the travel industry’.

In both awards, votes are cast by professionals working within each industry and by members of the public.

Stephanie Metson, marketing manager at the Vale Resort, said: “For the Vale Resort to be named in two different award categories in the same year is an outstanding achievement and a testament to the hard work of all of our staff.

“We pride ourselves on putting our customers at the heart of everything we do to ensure they have a memorable experience every time they visit.

“These awards will inspire us to maintain our high standards so we continue to excel.”

The Vale Spa - Wales' largest - has 19 treatment rooms and six bespoke relaxation zones. These include the ‘chill-out’ zone with leather sofas and magazines, the ‘float’ zone, with water beds and water feature, and the ‘slumber' zone, with low lighting and quilts. The resort’s spa and leisure facilities also include a 20-metre pool, whirlpool bath, steam room and sauna.

Its two championship golf courses have been host to a number of PGA golf tournaments over the years, and benefits from state-of-the-art courses and greens equipment.  The courses offer a mixture of mature wooded areas, wide and narrow fairways and vast areas of water features.

The Wales National, at 7,433 yards off the championship tees, is one of the longest courses outside America, with hole 6 being voted as one of the top 10 par 4's in the UK. The Lake course, slightly shorter at 6,436 yards, is just as challenging, and aptly named with water coming into play on 12 of its holes.

The independent 4-star Vale Resort includes a 143-bedroom hotel, 13-suite conference facility, restaurants & champagne bar, award-winning golf courses, leisure and sports facilities, and a five-bubble spa. It is located 3 miles off junction 34 of the M4, is six miles outside Cardiff City Centre and only 2 hours from London.
